UEFN: Festival Pinball is live
I turned the shooter game into a top down pinball game. You don't drive around in the game, you let it bounce you around. Just like proper pinball.

I'm gonna drop a little secret right now for technical and especially fx artists. The market right now is white hot for your services. Recruiters are getting feisty and salaries are going up. If you are even a little unhappy with your current position, you may want to look around

In DC Online, someone left a t posed default male model at the world origin in the gold master version. Which meant they couldn't patch it out ever. As a fix. they placed dumpster on top of it, even though it was the middle of a city intersection.
Wutville update: A very raw video, but i'm showing off that i've completely rebuilt the first blue spawns. Players will spawn in the lower area and be able to leave through either of the two original exits.

Wutville update: I've handed the new build over for a playtest.
Fixed collision is either fixed or not, but having a playtest seems extremely prudent at this point.

Today, I realized a long time goal of getting a map officially accepted into Team Fortress 2 with the holiday event this year. It is a Dr.Suess inspired map by the name of Wutville.

the purple boxes was Ol Nick's Mansion which i never built. That's what's supposed to be sitting over the last point. I couldnt decide if to make it in the TF2 style or the Wutville style. I punted on it as i was shutting down my TF2 efforts at the time

Wutville Update: As you can tell I'm still working on it. I didnt get it finished for the Thanksgiving deadline and didn't want to waste everyone's time with another interim solution.
Currently turning all the curved walls into func_details.

I hunkered down with some wings as a bribe to bang out some barns and it worked. All the base barns are done and I installed the new ones around the first point. I'll slowly install the others as we go.
Wutville: working out this tunnel and the shapes i have to build to make it work. Gonna make this into a narrow push ramp before the point as a way to make this a more challenging part of the map for blue. it's still gonna be easy for them, but this gives red some help.

I just checked my bank account and it seems I got the biggest Halloween check from Valve ever. Literally in the 100x range bigger than previous ones.
Yes, I has a Halloween map credit too. It's a 1% credit for making a Greentooth pumpkin. So I always got a very small check

Wutville Update: spent some time in the area where the train goes inside. Cut the stairs in, cleaned up the area and gave it a bit more room to kill your friends. I'll detail it with some lore elements later on. This was already a bit more detailing than planned, but it happens
Shutting down your studio because what you are working on leaked has got to be the most childish and pathetic reason that I've ever heard. Then for the CEO to blame the developers he's firing is gross act that I hope follows him for the rest of his career.

A large esteemed studio in the Seattle area asked me to interview. Twice; years apart. Both times the process was 90 days on the dot from initial contact to the final 'no' emails. 6 months of interviews, tests and waiting. Fuck them. I won't even RT their help wanted posts.
Wutville: today's efforts including finally placing skywalls, closing off a hallway that has become a duplicate route now that i've dealt with the alley sniper issue. sorry snipers had to do this one.

Wutville: continued work on the courtyard. placed some world building bits and finished the other side of the courtyard re-using previous bits. Getting to the put where my library of wutville pieces is starting to pay off. ... finally....

This is why it's so hard put time against TF2 maps. I haven't even been able to play a single game without Russian spam bots since before Wutville shipped. The game feels like a corpse that's being raped. I love the game still, just wish Valve did too.
Team Fortress 2's massive botting problem has made the game nigh-unplayable for two years and counting, and its community is begging Valve for answers – or at least acknowledgement.
Wutville: Currently rebuilding the trees. I had built collision, but when i exported it before to fix some problems with the gold wrap, i forgot the collision.
The internet is 30 years old... but

Wutville Update continued to build the last blue spawn into two parts and build another side hallway. Pic shows one of the entrances to the side room and spawn entrance. Building brush shapes like this is a pain in the ass.
Wut update:
the pipe cliffs are now all models in this view. much more smoother and with the bevel detail between stripes.
new blue first spawn as well, i like tall spawns, i cannot lie.
Wutville: building new optimized pieces to replace my more thrown in there as placeholders versions. New versions have the yellow highlight, You can see how much of the walls i have deleted, from the gaps.

The decision to cut me was from the e-suite. My entire leadership chain didn't know about it until this morning. They have also all individually reached out and offered themselves as reference for my next job. This was a money issue, not a me issue. My own self worth is in tact
I am doing my best to use Twitter as my whine cellar as I go through this job search. I'm trying to be a bit more vocal about it to show younger devs that even 25+ year vets have the same issues to some extent.
This is not unique to Blizzard, this is how large companies deal with people. HR is there not for you, but rather to protect the company from what the managers do. They are a crass bait/switch corporate joke deployed for the benefit of the company.
so, enough time has passed now for me to talk about why i decided to leave Blizzard. a mixed year with great teammates, but a management that mistreated, lied to me, gaslit me, gave me a fake promotion, and HR that refused to help.

Capcom is polishing their internal game engine for potential public licensing. They've released a series of videos talking about how they have been updating the engine for new and future tech.
RE:2023 RE ENGINE's Past and Future
So I am sad the map has some issues, but I'm not surprised and I will fix them. I already spoke to Valve and they will take my updates. Done deal. Still super happy it happened and I have been swinging the ban hammer for the few vocal haters.
Wutville Update: First round of fixes have been tested. Collision and exploit focused changes for the most part. Structural and texture changes will be up next.

The rapid fire little snippets of info are affecting you the same way a game can keep you hooked with small little rewards; looking at you MMO's. Clicker games are feeding that same brain lobe. It'll be here later.
Wutville update: Added another spawn entrance, to the lower first blue spawn. it still needs detailing and some stitching to cover it up, but getting the blocking in first, of course.
The Ice Unicorn has been unfrozen for all in

Wutville: Does all those crazy shapes have collision? Yep. At least the ones the player interacts directly with. I got a fast method for cranking out /correct hulls.. that i developed working on these damn things. Adapt or die.

Wutville update: Made some new window frames and arches for the small first blue spawn. They are now models rather than out of bsp. Got them all lined up on the grid too for any future uses.
There is some issues at the moment which I'll work on addressing immediately. In my defense, I had 4 days from the first email to the deadline for submission. I had to get all my tools back up and running, pull the project out of backups and try to get some polish in there.
