26! TWENTY SIX! 26! Birthdays for us!
Today is the 26th anniversary of Polycount.
Thank you all for being here, now and over the years. You are the reason we are still here. Thank you. Thank you.
26 years of being on the internet!!
.
@TeamFortress
has been updated with a bunch of bug fixes and some QoL adjustments.
This is encouraging, especially some of these fixes for some older known issue. Thank you. Please more of this.

I've painted over this image of Franklin Douglass using a sphere palette made from a normals sphere. I brought it into Photoshop as a normal map in a 3D layer to try out different lighting and reflections.

Today we celebrate our 25th anniversary. It is an incredible milestone.
This year, as a treat for us all, please tell us the games you have been involved with. We would love to see the wealth of projects our community has been involved with over the 2.5 decades
Thank you for 25
"ALL POLYS ARE GROUPS OF VERTS. ALL TRIANGLES ARE JUST A COLLECTION OF VERTS. QUADS ARENT EVEN A THING IN THE ENGINE. UV'S ARE JUST ANOTHER COLLECTION OF VERTS. ITS ALL JUST VERTS."

New year, new tips. When you have a camera facing mesh with a panning effect, offset it in a world space direction to mimic wind, this helps make it appear more 3D. Works great for a dirt cheap barrel fire, no sprites no subUVs.

For those that care/curious:
@Polycount
will not be engaging in any NFT's of any sort for the foreseeable future.
We simply don't offer any service or product beyond the occasional bits of swag. It's just not what we do. The environmental impact is also worrisome.
Stay green.
This is a great idea for an include in your portfolio. Shows you have the receipts for the beauty images also included.
This is an efficient way to show recruiters that you can do the job they are looking to fill.
Maybe include the wires on the object too.
I'm trying to do some breakdown shots of this and as disgusting as this is I can't figure out a way to make this more presentable. I've always found vehicle artists are too secrative about their mesh maps. Hopefully this strikes a balance between beauty and feasability.
Happy Birthday Polycount!!
It's been 22 years since we opened the doors, 22. Twenty two!
Thank you for being a part of our family over the years. We love you all past and present.
A significant portion of the game industry has graduated from the School of Polycount.
The industry cares what you can do, not how you learned to do it.
Dear students.
I discussed with the student I mentor and NO, you don't need to come from a well known "videogame" school to work as gamedev.
We look at your folio, NOT your diploma.
The Space Station did a sudden, unexpected, one-and-a-half backflip. Not good, but mistakes happen, no damage, and it's why spaceships need to be tough.

Public post: Shaders for People Who Don't Know Anything At All, Part 0 of ? the beginning of a tutorial series on making shaders for Unity for people who really seriously have no idea how to make shaders for Unity
The new Greentooth trophy has variable thickness inside walls. This weights it so that it rotates to keep the face looking up. It also takes almost 2 minutes for it to finally settle.
This is a great post on a shader you've probably seen in a few different games and wonder how it worked. Joyce does great work with this concise tutorials.
Here's how I made my fake liquid shader using solid color backfaces and movement from script.

Just for the sake of clarity, we still are not supporting NFT's.
If we re-tweet something that has an NFT tag call us out for being a dumbass and we'll fix it. We generally will not signal boost if we know. Mistakes happen tho. Sorries.

Warframe is getting a lot of love in the press lately and we thought it might be appropriate to remind Polycounters that the game also regularly adds cosmetic items from their Steam Workshop
This is how you can pose any base mesh with the Pose Face Sets brush.
You just need to mark some seams, generate the Face Sets and the mesh will deform as it was rigged, with full control over each individual segment.

Good Morning! We have a hot bowl of eye candy with shader gravy for you: The March 2018 Recap has been gathered and prepared for by
@seanvangorder
for your consumption. Remember you need up to 10 servings of eye candy/day... Especially if you are UV-ing.
This was today for some of you, it will be tomorrow for others. Don't stress out. Game dev is hard. There is problems. Always. How you deal with the problem is how you will be remembered.
Hey new game artists!
There will be days where you will get absolutely nothing done for whatever reason. It happens. Go home, get your mind out of work, and come back refreshed. Don't stay late trying to fight an uphill battle (exception for deadlines).

Good morning! Time to get up and go to work! 🎶
There are many polys to be created and then lovingly destroyed to find the strongest ones. Decorate the survivors with a crown of pixels and shaders. Then bind them to a skeleton with math and scripts. Don't forget to save.
Rather annoyingly can't comment on an article about ourselves on
@Polygon
but to be clear:
the logo (greentooth) is creative commons licensed but we also have signed waivers for larger game studios
In short, we entirely encourage the easter egg
A few of you might be familiar with the term sRGB and might have had to click a button next it to make the tech artists happy.
