In everything the supply chain enables, the village has almost no share in value addition. Indeed, the village now primarily buys off the value chain too. With economic loss of course, but also health, biodiversity loss and huger footprint.
I bought canned coconut water from a vending machine in Delhi airport. It turns out imported coconut water. Coconut farmers have been hurting due to low prices in the South. Our farmers don't take part in the higher value markets like this example and we have to enable them to.

Someone shared this ORR video of the Big Traffic Event yesterday. The shot spanned a fairly large stretch - it struck me that this would have been 20 or so buses worth of people, at most! We really need to invest a hell lot more in

One of my more optimistic days traveling to villages around Bahraich near Lucknow and speaking with FPOs trying to change outcomes, farming. Found villages which still consume mostly their own edible oil, and individuals who buy v little food related market produce. Also, bamboo!

As we went around (even) Delhi, we saw dozens of "captive" cyclists everywhere. They are invisible, and you often hear "nobody cycles" as an argument against lanes/infra. Not true. Not by a mile.

Seriously. Or kids are breathing in microplastics. Our water sources are stressed and polluted. Our soil is near dead. Our air is terrible in so many places. It's nowhere close to "balance", putting it mildly.
I would disagree. The air is toxic all winter. My flight into Delhi had to be diverted cos of the thick smog. The rivers are too polluted to even step into. Inhabited areas are covered with plastic waste.

Despite two independent solar setups, some electrical glitch meant we had only lanterns and candles during the 2+ hour outage in the rains at Coorg. It was the most beautiful time of the evening. It also gets you to sleep early, wait up with the sun.
