This gall is caused by the Yellow flat-footed fly (Agathomyia wankowiczii). An orange coloured fly and the only invertebrate in Britain to cause a gall on fungus. Very happy to add this to the site species list π. Saltwells NNR,Dudley .@EcoRecording

Found this guy having a walk about in one of the ponds behind the wardens base. The pond has unfortunately dried out so after his photoshoot I put him in the pond that does still have water π. Great Diving Beetle (Dytiscus marginalis). Saltwells NNR,Dudley. @EcoRecording

One more from our visit to Trench Wood,Worcs. Dark Bush-Cricket and Speckled Bush-Cricket. There were also Roesel's Bush-Cricket but they managed to allude the camera. Dark Bush-Cricket was a new one for me and it very kindly sat for its photoshoot π. @markweb29890220

Another species from Trench Wood, Worcs yesterday. Phasia hemiptera a Tachinidae fly that parasitises forest and green shield bugs. Never seen anything like it before amazing looking fly. @markweb29890220 here's your "Parrot" fly π.

Thank you @markweb29890220 for taking me to visit Trench Wood, Worcs for a bug hunt today. Highlights included Wood White, Brimstones lots of Brimstones, White Admiral, Poplar Leaf Rolling Weevil actually rolling a leaf ! and Dark Bush Cricket.
