Honored to join the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Selma. The courage & tenacity of civil rights activists—then and now—fuels our fight. With rising voting restrictions & attacks on racial justice, the struggle is far from over. More determined than ever to push forward.

“What Trump did in his first term really shows how broken the death penalty system is... it is error-prone, it is racially biased, it is a drain on public resources. It doesn’t deter crime, and it doesn’t make communities safer.” Thoughts in @MotherJones

The president never fulfilled his promise to end the federal death penalty. Taking action now could blunt Trump's vow to go on another spree.

I spoke with @NBCNews about Trump's plan to expand the federal death penalty. As I emphasized, "We’re going to fight this tooth and nail, and we’re going to seek to uphold the constitutional principles that do not call for this expansion."

The president-elect ramped up executions in his first term. He has since suggested putting to death human and drug traffickers and migrants who kill U.S. citizens.

🧵Probation and parole set people up to fail – especially those with disabilities. NEW @ACLU guide shows how defense attorneys can play a critical role in ensuring clients with disabilities can complete supervision. https://t.co/VY08eJfA3x

And, in doing so, the justices sent a signal that institutions can and should continue to find innovative ways to ensure equal opportunity for all. Read more of my take here:

The court has declined to hear new challenges to admissions policies, leaving the door open for institutions to continue creative solutions for expanding opportunity.

Last month, the Supreme Court did something noteworthy: it refused to hear a challenge to a high school admissions policy designed to eliminate unfair barriers for students of color.

@BardCollege @bardcce And a special thank you to the engaged, insightful, and inspiring students at Bard who remind me that – despite many reasons to be cynical – the next generation will continue on in the struggle for a true multicultural feminist democracy.

I'm honored to participate in @theatlantic Festival on a panel today about probation and parole reform. Nearly 4 million people are on supervised release in the US. We need to reimagine supervision to promote success, not more incarceration. #TAF23

Last week, a federal judge ordered Louisiana to remove kids from Angola Prison by Sept. 15. The state is appealing that order — fighting to keep the kids in Angola. @louisiana_gov children don’t belong in prison. Get the kids out of Angola NOW.
