Had a great time sharing my passion for @ethereum with such curious minds. I guess it's a good sign when the lecture almost turns into a Q&A 😀. thank you for the warm welcome @uzh_blockchain.

📜 Check out our new paper! . When L2 fees are very low, the best arbitrage strategy becomes to compute opportunities on-chain, essentially spamming the chain.

Our paper demonstrating that Ethereum validators can be deanonymized has been accepted at USENIX Security 2025!. The P2P network leaks a lot of information, posing a significant security concern, while offering insights into voting power decentralization in Ethereum.

Introducing Banyan🌱: Fast Rotating Leader BFT. We achieve optimal commit latency (2 message delays) with leaders rotating every round, without incurring any penalties if the fast path fails. With @DiscoKobi, @MaxAlbarello, and @TheWattenhofer . 📜:

We benchmark Banyan using the Bamboo BFT ( framework, and show that our fast path can improve latency by up to 30% in a WAN setting.

Banyan matches the lower bound recently improved by Kuznetsov et al. (.and @ittaia et al. (. The fast and slow path run alongside each other, similar to SBFT, and thus Banyan doesn't incur penalties if the fast path fails.

Banyan is built on top of the Internet Computer Consensus protocol developed at @dfinity. By treating the first vote for each block differently, we can run a fast path using messages that are already part of the consensus protocol.
