I hear the job market for Computer Science graduates is dire. I would still encourage students to study CS. CS engineers now build AI tools for other CS engineers. All other disciplines will follow, with the same effect on the job market. Just 5 years later.

Thanks for coming around. I think Mysticeti and Alpenglow are both the state of the art protocols in their domains (DAG vs Coding). However, security shouldn't be measured in %, but in USD. For Solana, security is $20B!
it's been a few months and since solana is def going down the alpenglow path i spent some more time diving deeper into the details tl;dr although i didn't fully change my mind, i now think it looks like the right move for solana and here's why first thing first, alpenglow is

True, currently about 1/3 of the validators receive about 50% of their stake from the foundation. But... 1) This help has been reduced over time, and will continue to reduce. 2) This is not necessarily bad because it can support geographic decentralization. 3) Alpenglow.
While ETH is winning in the actual important metrics for a blockchain, what’s Solana doing? Subsidizing its validators. By a *lot.* It would be better for them if they dropped the act and went full Hyperliquid - run the chain out of a single data center and maximize throughput.

Good comparison, but: Instead of communication complexity use bottleneck complexity. Alpenglow commit is really min(2delta_80,3delta_60) (yes, sometimes 3 < 2). With these two improvements, and assuming crash failures > byzantine failures, Alpenglow wins in every single row!!!

"For payments, Alpenglow could be a breakthrough. Sending stablecoins across borders in 150 ms would put crypto payments on par with credit card networks. Combined with Solana’s low fees, the upgrade positions the network as a genuine alternative for real-time settlement."

Happy Pythagorean Triple Square Day! Today’s date is made of 3 perfect squares and they form a Pythagorean triple: 3² + 4² = 5² This only happens once a century.
