Everything that's going on with social platforms just proves to me that I should have focused on my blog even earlier. I mainly write on communications, remote work, productivity, my thoughts on tech, I also review undeservedly obscure apps.

I will continue saying that the FTC blocking Adobe's acquisition of Figma was the only reasonable antitrust action they took. It was clear case of a quasi-monopoly, buying the only threat to its existence. Figma now matched this $20Bn price in public markets.

Makes sense they are — IMAX is taking 20% of the box office and the entire mindshare as well. IMAX tickets for Nolan's Odyssey are available a year before its release

One area where asking @diabrowser is better than @ChatGPTapp is that chats are ephemeral. I don't need to clutter up my history with every request. What I want instead is the ability to *save* really useful and interesting chats when I choose so.

I just wrote about IMAX and how their creation and control over a key technology allowed them to break the laws of branding and put themselves in front of every movie.

Superbrands create and control key technology allowing them to break the common laws of branding and put themselves forward. Here's how IMAX put an intro in front of every movie.

Nolan's Odyssey will be the first movie shot entirely on 70mm IMAX film. Scheduled for release in theaters next July. It will be his most ambitious, star-filled, and visually groundbreaking film yet with a $250 million budget. But do you know what IMAX actually is?

It's laughable how neat and beautiful @diabrowser is compared to Chrome, a product from a $2T corporation

Very few things annoy people more than the price hikes. One of those people is changing the very structure of your pricing, so they suddenly get bills they'd never expect. Any such transition should be calculated, justified, and announced in advance. Even then it'll be rough.

Cursor constantly changing their pricing without any proper announcement and documentation recently is a pretty bad and frustrating move for users.

A small note here would be that actually the studies get aggregated data and for some countries they don't even have the "cause", purely relying on the statistical model's ability to estimate "excess" deaths.

Does heat make it worse for elderly and sick people? Of course. And the distaste some European countries have for AC is barbaric. But no, there isn't a plague going on every summer here. People like "data" but they rarely question the quality of data. But numbers travel far.

This is different from COVID-related deaths, where people were a) diagnosed with COVID-19 and b) died from one of its well-known complications (pneumonia so bad they couldn't breathe).

Roughly, they look at how many strokes people usually get, how many took place during a heatwave, and then attribute all the "excess" to the heat. There are advanced math models behind it, but these are still models. Different studies produce numbers that differ by 25%.

The 175,000 deaths figure comes from epidemiological analyses of mortality data and temperature records. Practically nobody dies from actual heat exhaustion. People die from a pre-existing condition that gets worse with heat (like a stroke). What does this mean?.

The figure comes from WHO and their(!) European Region. This includes Central Asia, with countries like Kazakhstan (hardly Europe, but okay). 53 countries are in it! So, the headline number is already wrong. Now let's look at how they got there.

Have you heard that 175,000 people die from heat every summer in Europe?. But it doesn't seem like anybody tried to figure out what this means. Felt too naturally into the "europoor' discourse. I did, and this figure seems overblown. P.S. Still, AC to every home!
