Please keep Terrell Davis @terrellllllll in your memory. He is the OG neo-Y2K artist and we wouldn’t be here without him. He was an admin of the Facebook groups, and an early CARI member. He was an incredibly humble person. He will forever be a legend. Rest in Power, 1998-2020

It was kinda funny how I found out abt this -- was reverse image searching a totally diff interior design img, and the interior of the freakbox from the architect's website came up! Would've never seen it otherwise, even in these ~ten years of Y2K research!

This seems almost completely lost to time, even tho I found some mention that it was the 10th most visited site in 2001? It shut down in Nov 01, during the dotcom bust, & per the wayback machine there was like an attempted comeback in 2007?

Found a bizarre Y2K dotcom boom artifact I had to share -- does anyone from that era remember alltrue. com & the Freakbox? It was this proto-Youtube website where you uploaded edgy 'reality' content, and they promoted it w/ an 'anything goes' camera-equipped metal cylinder in NYC

Just to add for crediting, I scanned these from the book, ‘The 21st Century Office’ (2003) and the Oct. 2002 issue of Interior Design Magazine -- also, as some have mentioned, this is a great example of the revival of 60s-70s space age/ultramodern design.

Mid to late 90s - mid 2000s revival of Supergraphic-Ultramodern. Supergraphics, … Millennium Disco kitsch, evolving from Gen X Soft Club nostalgia for the 1970s.

Images of the set design for comparison -- the colors, forms, even the orange carpet and the shelves on the side!

I think I found the real-life inspiration for the Ugly Betty office! -- haven't seen this mentioned anywhere online. It's the Duffy Design offices in NYC, from 2002 - designed by MAP Architecture + Design (Morris Adjmi Partners)

Sim. to my interest in the more hand-drawn/painterly 'Neoliberal Corporate Surrealism' style, I can't get enough of the CG/surreal PS stock photo look -- these are from the 'Artville - Technology Concepts' CD (1999) - that last one is basically the office siren tiktok meme lol

They have some from a series titled 'DigitalVision', though they're missing this one called 'Fusion' (1999), which is absolutely chock full of surreal & bizarre 90s stock graphic design. I'll have to do a full post on it sometime!

These are from another CD in the series, 'Mixa 13 Image & Pattern' by Photo-Magic (1995) -- some really beautiful HQ iridescent & holographic imagery here that reminds me of the mid 2010s 'Holosexual' trend (we gotta find a different name for that!)

Really appreciate how high-quality these are! Reminds me of the backgrounds in some Fötus ads, rave flyers, and bubblegum dance album covers. Seems like they were done in Bryce 3D but I'm not sure

Found an incredible archive of HQ stock image CDs; these are selections from 'Mixa 96: CG Space Odyssey', an image library CD by Mixa Image Library Japan (2001). Credit to u/Prior_Advantage_5408 on Reddit, and ShivaShaw on Internet Archive!

Nintendo World - Rockefeller Plaza, NYC (Opened May 2005)(1/2). "The Pokemon Center opened in 2001 in NYC's Rockefeller Plaza. In the fall of '04, it was decided to reboot that space and place it under the Nintendo banner - while retaining a sizable Pokemon presence within it."

Found a bunch of unused/process iterations of the Pepsi Blue branding & packaging in a design book. Runs the gamut of early 00s trends; from tribal tattoo motifs, 70's kitsch/Kustom Kulture hot rods/tattoos/flames, classic Y2K TDR futurism & some CGXC + Corp. Grunge

Loving this very appropriately bubbly cover design for Y2K, a collection of essays on the 2000s coming out Jan 2025 - also excited to say that CARI is cited in the book!.
