Something seems to have changed in Twitter. Last Wednesday I got my first "you have notifications" email since 2018, which is a nice fix!.

I justreleased a first draft of filesystem support on Xous using PDDB as a backing! `std::fs::File` and friends now behave like you think they should on Xous. More information at
xobs.io
The “filesystem” on xous is called PDDB – short for the Plausibly Deniable Data Base. This is a dict-key-value store with built-in overlay support. We’ve just released experimental support for File...

I've been working on a new embedded operating system called Xous. It's a memory protected microkernel. I just released a port of Rust's standard library for it. So nice to have an allocator again.
xobs.io
It is possible to add support for a new OS to the Rust compiler’s stable channel without rebuilding everything, enablinglibstd support for entirely new operating systems.

I've been using the @renodeio emulator from @antmicro to develop the software stack for #Precursor. I posted about the rationale behind using Renode and some of the cool things you can do with it at
xobs.io
Precursor is an FPGA-based dev platform for secured applications. The reference design runs a VexRiscv CPU core plus a wide range of peripherals. Developing software for an embedded target can be a...

I put together some of my thoughts on the @GovTechSG Trace Together Token at -- tl;dr is that the hardware looks good, and we'll have to wait to see how the software looks.
xobs.io
On 19 June, GovTech Singapore invited four members of the community to come and inspect their new TraceTogether Token. This token removes the need to carry a phone at all times, and is designed to...

I got invited to the GovTech offices yesterday to take a look at the TraceTogether Token they developed. It's a sound approach they're taking. It was great to meet Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and hear some of the reasoning behind the Trace Together decisions.

Informal survey: How many people have tried Foboot v2.0.3 (required for Circuitpython on Fomu)? Have you had any problems? I'm going to the factory and I'm considering whether to start shipping all new units.

I'm trying to improve the performance of circuitpython-on-Fomu, and the easiest solution is to move some stuff into RAM. The question is: Which stuff? Hacky-no-profiler soltuion: break into gdb every 10 seconds, do a backtrace, and continue. Accelerate the functions in SPI flash.

The #fomu pcb is super tiny, so we use a drill to remove them from their panels. Sadlyzl, a few Fomu boards decided to go exploring as the drill bit came by. It looks like someone used the "erase" brush in real life. Happily, most came out unscathed! We'll fix this next time.
