I’ve seen some concerns about transparency around the FAIR project, and I get that. Of course it’s not ideal to work on something for months behind closed doors, but honestly, that’s often how early ideas take shape. People explore, experiment, and try to figure out if it’s even.

I think a strong ecosystem needs both a healthy community and thoughtful leadership. Without structure, things get messy. But if leadership feels distant and decisions impact people’s lives, trust breaks down. People speak up. They look for other paths. In Europe, we’ve learned.
@photomatt @titanas Thanks for the answer. You're right that conversations at events reflect the culture around them. In Europe, there’s more focus on regulation, sustainability, and governance. It’s not always exciting, but it’s part of how we try to protect people. Cookie banners aren’t fun, but.

It’s time to leave Basel and #WCEU, and like almost every time, I’m left with this strange feeling. A kind of sadness that comes with saying goodbye after days filled with laughter, conversations, shared meals, and meaningful connections from all over the world. After many years.
