17 people die in a high school and a month later there's a nationwide protest to get the attention of lawmakers.
One dog dies on an airplane and there's a bill in the Senate rectifying it within 48 hours.
I will be filing a bill tomorrow that will prohibit airlines from putting animals in overhead bins. Violators will face significant fines. Pets are family.
The President of the United States altered a National Hurricane Center map with a sharpie to falsely extend the official forecast toward Alabama so he didn't have to admit he was wrong in a tweet.
It is a violation of federal law to falsify a National Weather Service forecast and pass it off as official, as President Trump did here.
18 U.S. Code § 2074:
They buried the best tidbit at the very end of the article:
Alaska Airlines is the only airline with scheduled service from Anchorage to Juneau, so she has no way to get to the legislature unless she takes a days-long ferry ride.
Trump vows that if he wins the presidency, he will appoint a special prosecutor to "go after Biden" and "the entire Biden crime family."
"I will totally obliterate the deep state," Trump adds. "I am the only one who can save this nation."
Bernie's new campaign tool lets you harvest the personal data of anyone you know so Bernie's campaign can reach out to them.
This is incredibly invasive. It's like the PATRIOT Act for Twitter trolls.
The President of the United States just invoked the possibility of civil war if he's removed from office through constitutional means.
I never want to hear "both sides" ever again.
....If the Democrats are successful in removing the President from office (which they will never be), it will cause a Civil War like fracture in this Nation from which our Country will never heal.” Pastor Robert Jeffress,

We're in the middle of a tornado outbreak and someone posts a picture of the 2013 Moore tornado and says it's happening now and approaching a major city. It's got 3,000 RTs and climbing. They shut off replies so no one can correct them and try to blunt the impact.
New from Twitter: an upcoming feature will let you control who can reply to your tweet as you compose it, there will be the ability to limit replies to followers, people who are mentioned in the tweet, or no replies at all
Also television sucks tonight without Kathy Griffin. Watching Kathy on TV while growing up helped me feel more secure with being gay and I'll stan for her to the ends of the earth.
To be clear, the GOP is looking into *canceling an election because they might lose*.
Replace all the actors here with some eastern European country and we'd be screaming for sanctions before the U.N.
Robert Dear walked into a Planned Parenthood waiting room in Colorado Springs in 2015 and shot 12 people, 3 fatally, because of deceptively edited videos created by anti-abortion activists that Republican presidential candidates heavily referenced in their campaigns and debates.
The power outage in Atlanta's airport is a great reminder of how easily modern life can crumble without electricity.
Much of Puerto Rico's been without power for three months on Wednesday.
He doesn't remember saying viciously anti-gay stuff for decades. He doesn't remember voting for bills.
He's really trailblazing as the first Amnesia-American to serve as Speaker. 🫡
Wow. Mike Johnson on Fox News Sunday doesn't rule out voting against access to contraception but then says "I really don't remember any of those measures" when asked about his past votes against reproductive health care
Strong? Safe? Seriously? Three years ago, COVID was killing seven 9/11 attacks' worth of Americans every week. 21,000 people died between Dec. 6-12, 2020.
I know everyone is desperate to forget it ever happened, but object permanence is a thing! I feel like I'm going insane.
Fox Business copes with the great 4th Quarter GDP number: "We'll look through this report to see if there are signs, that maybe the economy doesn't feel as, or isn't as resilient as it might seem"
DeSantis is asked during a news conference about the state's rejection of an AP African American history class. He says "this course on Black history, what's one of the lessons about? Queer theory ... that's the wrong side of the line for Florida standards."
We'd welcome American Samoa to join as a state if that was their wish. That goes for Guam, CNMI, and USVI, too.
It's so revealing when guys like this view extending rights to other Americans entirely through the lens of party politics.
3. IF YOU ADD DEMOCRAT SEATS BY ADDING DC AND PUERTO RICO TO THE SENATE, WE SHALL ADD AMERICAN SAMOA AND BREAKUP POTENTIAL OTHER STATES (LIKE TEXAS AND PERHAPS FLORIDA) AND CREATE ADDITIONAL REPUBLICAN SENATE SEATS.
NOAA released an unsigned statement tossing expert meteorologists under the bus for contradicting false weather information disseminated by the president.
This administration and everyone enabling them needs to go down in resounding defeat next November. This needs to end.
Walker: "you know how we violate the Constitution to make maps as red as possible?"
[aides nod]
Walker: "what if I say the left is doing it instead?"
[aides fracture necks nodding]
Historically, the Left often pushed maps that divide communities of interest & dilute minority voting power as they gerrymander districts to gain more power. The GOP must fight for fair maps. If we have fair maps along with quality candidates & engaged grassroots, we win! 3/3
Remember when they campaign on "leftist mobs" next year which side shut down a state capitol because of armed protests and which party's senator implied he might kill police officers to avoid voting on a bill.
McCarthy announces he's directing a House committee to open an impeachment inquiry into Biden (even though there is no evidence he did anything wrong, let alone committed high crimes and misdemeanors)
The left needs to take court appointments as seriously as the right or everything the left fights for is for naught in the hands of a permanently conservative court.
The end goal seems to be to cheapen impeachment in order to:
1) lessen the sting of Trump's deserved trials, and
2) make impeachment look like another mundane fight to protect future Republicans when they violate the Constitution
I wrote an ode to the National Weather Service, which keeps chugging through the shutdown to keep us safe, even without pay. Thank you for your service.
Private company execs can thump their chests all they want, but they'd be lost without gov't weather.
I haven't watched an awards show since the one on Nickelodeon in the 90s.
I'm watching the Oscars tonight for the only thing that matters: the new Roseanne commercial.
The massive flood after the major flood that overshadowed the massive flood that came after the major floods and the historic fires and the unprecedented heat that followed a record drought that came after the most intense hurricane season on record that came after the most wildf
This feature is great for people who face harassment, but it's going to allow people to speak authoritatively without any pushback whatsoever.
The word of the tweet that gets the most RTs will become the uncritical truth.
The unintended consequences of this will be enormous.

I'm nervous about the impending Electoral College decision from SCOTUS.
Depending how they decide and write it, untethering all 538 electors from their state's results could have enormous consequences and deal a fatal blow to public trust in future elections.
The President of the United States is sitting on Twitter on the eve of Election Day saying that the impending election might result in "violence in the streets" if things don't go his way.
Vote him out and leave no doubt that his authoritarian fantasies have no place here.

Trump deleted and reposted this tweet hitting Cuomo so Cuomo's response would have no context.
This guy is president during what's likely the biggest public emergency in living memory and he's playing Twitter games like a teenager.
I wrote a post explaining how I make maps despite never taking a single GIS course. I started this 24 hours ago and it wound up being 2,600 words. But most of it is a step-by-step of how to make your own map.
This is by far my most requested explainer.
He has an entire press staff available 24/7. He can deliver a live address on television with half an hour's notice. He can issue statements like every president before him.
Twitter is a private company. Y'all support businesses making their own decisions until you don't.
Sen. Rick Scott: "The moment we go back to work, we cannot create an incentive for people to say, 'I don't need to go back to work because I can do better someplace else.'"
NRA's Dana Loesch promptly stopped livetweeting the Trump/Congress meeting after Trump said "I like taking the guns early. Take the guns first, go through due process second."
The NRA would've issued a drone strike on the White House had Obama said that.
Jason Kander was my "please run please run" candidate pretty much the day after the inauguration.
Knowing when to stop and focus on yourself is a solid quality. It's something we don't see much these days in our leaders. 👏
2 years ago today, I announced for Mayor instead of President.
99 days later, I announced I was quitting everything for a bit to get treatment for

Update: Good call. Life is much better now.
If you’re struggling, get help.
Ok, I’m going to bed now.
Goodnight!
The federal government spent every day of the 20 years since 9/11 preparing for terrorist attacks—and now that there's an active attack by domestic terrorists against the seat of government, the attackers are running the show. Unbelievable.
If you're gonna run with a conspiracy theory today, you're probably closer to the universe of possibilities if you run with "let it happen" rather than "made it happen." Just sayin'.
And we've arrived at why it *very much mattered* that Trump altered a hurricane forecast and forced NOAA to back up his lie under duress.
Fallout from a coronavirus outbreak directly threatens his political ambitions. He's going to control the response with himself in mind.
I’m told the president’s anger about the CDC briefing yesterday is focused on Dr. Nancy Messonnier, who said it’s not whether, it’s when the virus will hit the US. “She never should have said that,” a senior administration official told me. “it’s bad.”
I'm glad

mentioned that the meteorologists at the NWS are working through the shutdown without pay. Nobody on the news ever mentions them. They mention the TSA, food inspectors, and air traffic control, but never the NWS.
The Biden campaign's decision to forsake door-to-door canvassing may have cost Democrats dearly in down-ballot races. It was emblematic of the party's disastrous abandonment of face-to-face organizing.
It's fascinating to see Hilary's sharp outflow as the jet stream pulls it out of California.
A few people in the eastern Bay Area should be able to look up at a perfectly divided sky—mostly sunny west and cloudy east.

This is why elected conservatives like patriotism to be emotional rather than critical. It makes it easy to say "you're with Trump or you're with the enemy." Don't ask questions. Don't think. Just go with your gut and assent. Or else.

is now openly calling for American’s to turn on each other.
The time will come to debate U.S. policy.
Tonight American & allied troops have come under direct attack by a nation-state & Americans must come together to support & protect them & respond appropriately.
