Is it acceptable to work in a bar the way one would work in a coffee shop? Like could I just bring my laptop to the bar, get a pint, and write a thesis proposal draft

“I’m a biomarker girlie!” - me, starting my talk Loved being at the organic geochem GRS/GRC this week - nothing beats geeking out about lipids and isotopes and mass specs with people who are just excited as you! 🤩 Can’t wait to help plan the next one as a GRS co-chair!

To everyone who received the GRFP, congrats! And to those who didn't, remember that these awards do not define your success or worth as a scientist. There are many amazing scientists who did not receive this award and you're not alone. You are worthy and capable of great things!

This may be a tiny project in the grand scheme of things, but this paper basically represents how I have become a scientist and I’m forever grateful to my wonderful friends and mentors in the Summons Lab for helping me get to this point ❤️

I spent so much time learning with this project - not just how to extract the lipids or run an LC-MS, but how to analyze large data sets and learn from literature and write like an academic! I even learned how to code just to make the figures for this paper

Getting a little emotional thinking about the significance of this paper on me as a scientist 🥹 the samples were collected when I was still in high school in 2018 and the work I did here was the first lab work I ever did outside of AP chem
my first paper is out now! We looked at the early degradation of lipid biomarkers in microbial mats from the McMurdo Ice Shelf, Antarctica to understand how biomarkers preserve in cold, arid settings. Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen!
