...All that to say: split the proposal in two and I think one of the pieces could pass. Not sure it would in its current form. (End π§΅) @NUICFootball @ViewFromWestPod what did I miss?

...This piece of the proposal holds to both tradition and equity, allowing for the continuation of old rivalry while maintaining sizable matchups. Traveling trophies can still be on the line, and teams still take scheduling liberty in a way means something...

...Many schools are bleeding from the thumb and chopping off the whole hand when it comes to traditional conference athletics. If football is the driving factor that people say it is, as it already plays by different playoff rules, then it can play by different rules here too...

...You could even give it a name if it feels bland. "6A Region 2" becomes "6A East Fox Division," or "4A Region 8" is "4A Egyptian." At least THIS part of the proposal is meant to provide equity in places it doesn't exist...

...Of course, "Upstate Eight Champ" (hint: has 12 teams) sounds better than "6A Region 2 Champ," but conferences have become temporary grounds anyway; few are immune to any level of shift. Arguing "the proposal would constantly change" ignores that many already do (SW Valley)...

...Especially if the first three weeks DO still count for playoffs, that would help even more. Traditional rivalries WOULD still carry weight even in a new format in the first few weeks (if you have more than three 'rivals' in a sport, you're doing it wrong)...

...Since then it has been in 4 iterations of football "conferences," including its incomplete 4-team scramble right now. This proposal would help so many who have been conference nomads, and the flex helps relieve the negative rigidity that the old district proposal held...

Not sure I'm a huge fan of expanding playoffs, but... **LOVE the flex regional part.** My alma mater (Seneca) was in its conference for 35+ years before leaving in 2018...π§΅
A proposal has been put forth to the IHSA to expand the playoff field by 96 teams and introduce a flexed regional scheduling concept to ease the pressures for teams having difficulties putting together a full football schedule

π11-Man Imperialism - After Week 6π Playoff clinchers pepper this week's map. Downstate conference challenges caused major border consolidation for a few teams in the smaller classes. Quieter W7 coming up for consolidations. - Teams on Map: 92 Consolidation Games: 3
