It wasn't until I'd *taught* algorithms a few times that I finally understood why sorting is in the CS curriculum. Unfortunately, most curricula don't explain this! It is NOT because sorting is an important algorithm to learn to implement...
As a 41 year-old software developer do you know how many times I've had to manually implement QuickSort? Zero. Maybe we should test for more useful skills like taking a slow SQL query and optimizing it.

At some point I realized that learning to hear and understand people even when they're not communicating very well is a superpower. There is so much more knowledge and wisdom you gain access to when you stop being blocked because people aren't using the "right" words.

I started a meeting today by stating "I'm gonna ask some very basic questions. humor me." and they did and now I know a lot more than I did yesterday. Being honest about what I don't know and being brave enough to ask "silly" questions serves me quite well.
