Historically, highly productive and creative PI’s funded their labs with 3-5 R01s. Now we’re down to an arbitrary cap of 1.5 R01s? And this is somehow supposed to keep us competitive with China?.
@JasonSynaptic This will promote collaboration, improve the review quality, and address the growing problem of AI grant writing- if it is a maximum of 6 as PI. I don’t think any one person should be allowed to be PI on more than 1.5 (overlap in funding period) R01-level NIH grant at any time.
