Interesting column that posits that ideological opposites Mamdani and Trump are winning elections for the same reason.

To win again, Democrats must stop warning voters against the kind of people movies taught us to love.

If you're about to ask, "Where have you ever tasted smoked gator?". Highly recommended.

There's nothing like the taste of smoked gator.

Hilarious interview with Spinal Tap. If you liked the movie (the original; I haven't seen the sequel yet), you will love this story.
theguardian.com
Over 40 years since This Is Spinal Tap was mistaken for a comedy, its hard-rocking subjects are back for a legally obligated final gig. Our writer smells the glove

If a winery in Texas can charge me for attending an event that I didn't attend, then any bad actor in Moscow or Lagos or anywhere in the world can do so, using just your email address. It's surprising that Tock doesn't see this as a problem. But I do -- and you should.

This happened because a winery in Texas mistakenly charged me for attending a tasting in Texas. The winery realized its mistake. But Tock refused to help in any way. And the winery didn't have any information to charge me with but my email address.

"A majority of Americans (53 percent) now believe the First Amendment “goes too far in the rights it protects.” That number includes 52 percent of Republicans and 61 percent of Democrats.". We are witnessing the slow death of free speech.

Five British police officers just arrested a comedian for his posts on X. As J.K. Rowling put it: ‘This is totalitarianism. Utterly deplorable.’

I strongly believe in free speech. But unless we're talking about a government official, no one has the right to read anyone else's tweets. It's always a privilege that can be revoked.

I don't usually block people but I just realized that someone who says openly that police should investigate tweets is not someone who I want reading my tweets.

because the Canucks' owners, the Aquilini family, are major vineyard owners in Washington state. It's easy to envision a Canuck endorsing some Red Mountain Cabernet. But it's also good news for wine and spirits in general. Take it out out of the "verboten" category.

Until today the NHL had a rule preventing players from endorsing wine and spirits. The NHL Players' Association got that rule removed as part of contract negotiations. Good news for, among others, the Vancouver Canucks . 🧵.

Changes with deferred compensation, salary retention and dress codes will also take effect in 2025-26 — but not maximum contract terms.
