☠️ Extinction moment imminent Imagine you are a Wye Salmon returning home to spawn You finally complete this odyssey after many hazardous years out in the Atlantic Ocean And then you find the river bed where you are supposed to lay your eggs coated with thick noxious green

@watsonchas @RiverActionUK @Feargal_Sharkey @RobGMacfarlane @IoloWilliams2 @BenGoldsmith @jaowallace @ActivistAnglers @FriendsUpperWye @WyeSalmon @MarkAvery But what happened between 1988-1990? That wasn’t down to IPUs, and whatever it was is the actual reason there are currently very few salmon running the River Wye.

@watsonchas @RiverActionUK @Feargal_Sharkey @RobGMacfarlane @IoloWilliams2 @BenGoldsmith @jaowallace @ActivistAnglers @FriendsUpperWye @WyeSalmon @MarkAvery The EA and others implicated salmon hatcheries for this decline and closed them down. Now the only conservation wild salmon hatchery is on the Tyne. Which is still the best salmon river in England and Wales.

Still a worrying trend but the difference is important and you need to be accurate when making statements like this or people won't take you seriously.

@watsonchas @RiverActionUK @Feargal_Sharkey @RobGMacfarlane @IoloWilliams2 @BenGoldsmith @jaowallace @ActivistAnglers @FriendsUpperWye @WyeSalmon @MarkAvery As the majority of salmon spawn in Nov Dec, the Wye would have enough flow to run clear that time of year. While I appreciate the chicken debate, salmon numbers had dropped off drastically by 2000 well before 1 chicken shed was built.

@watsonchas @RiverActionUK @Feargal_Sharkey @RobGMacfarlane @IoloWilliams2 @BenGoldsmith @jaowallace @ActivistAnglers @FriendsUpperWye @WyeSalmon @MarkAvery This is so awful. We must run a campaign to stop pple eating chicken. They never used to, they don't need to, a brief moment in human cultural history and it wipes out a species
