Bill from @parcelforce. My mistake: I ordered car parts from Germany (unavailable in the UK) and the cost is 30% extra. Benefits of Brexit? apart from collecting passport stamps, not sure yet. @AlexChalkChelt if I vote for you I get Boris, the architect of Brexit. Any thoughts?

Did I miss something, or is this the only public record to the towering cultural icon of the C14 that was and is Machaut? The city of Reims seems to have missed a trick ... anyway, the lovely virelais Douce Dame was sung in Machaut street in his honour by a recent visitor

20 years on and I’ve begun to realise why no one has bothered to read my Ph D thesis. What was I on? Top marks to my examiners who were expected to wade through this stuff. And of course to innocent friends and family who proof read it. What was the point? I’m not quite sure ...

But in other news, here’s a performance of his earliest surviving canata first performed @friedenstein on Dec 1, 1720. Thanks to all colleagues performing including @JamesTenorGilch, @CheltCollMusic, @hannahmdavey, @musicstpeters

Just managed to order a copy of Fritz Hennenberg’s seminal Das Kantatenschaffen von G H Stölzel from German Amazon (Copies are like hens’ teeth). Slightly dismayed to learn that it is 9,019,230 on the bestseller list. Some way to go in popularising Stölzel. Onward and upward ...

G H Stölzel: Fürchte dich nicht https://t.co/ZS9yGO5Vpt via @YouTube Another beautiful Stölzel cantata given its first airing since the C18th ... do listen! Bach appreciated Stölzel's music, and it is IMHO unjustly neglected.

The third instalment of Stölzel cantatas now ready to watch. First performed on advent Sunday 1720 @Friedenstein, we think this its first performance since the 18thC. Spread the word for Stölzel!Komm herein du Gesegneter des Herrn

And here's bit of Stölzel's second cantata for Advent Sunday 1720. Not sure if anyone's ever performed this music since the C18th, but it deserves to be heard. So beautifully conceived, lovely lovely music. Proper recordings to follow when we have the sound files ...

Wonderful session recording Stölzel cantatas from the 1720/21 cycle last Sunday. Here's a bit of his Ps 51: a clip from one of the camera mikes, proper sound/video to follow. First performed @Friedenstein, autograph ms still in their library. First modern performance we believe.

Here's a snippet from a beautiful Stölzel aria, 300 years old last month taken from an upcoming online concert this Saturday ( https://t.co/jzdA053wn6 if you want to hear the whole aria). Original is in Gotha @Friedenstein - 4 lovely complete cantatas to come shortly.

Happy Birthday, Georg Christoph Wagenseil ... exactly a fortnight younger than Duphly ... here's something that will hopefully brighten up an otherwise rather dreary lockdown January day.

Please excuse the vanity ... but after several years of work Stölzel’s passion Die leidende und am Creutz sterbende Liebe Jesu (1720) is finally out in print. It’s not a very snappy title admittedly, but it is great music. Many thanks to all those who have helped along the way.

Just played a game of bridge for the first time in years, and - no joke - found myself bidding ‘one no trump’. What are chances of that, today of all days! My partner (daughter) and I got one trick over.
