Spatial Equity NYC 2.0 is on the way! Two really exciting pieces of news: there will be more data granularity (you will be able to zoom to the street and see certain features) and (semi) automation of data where some layers will get updated daily or on another recurrent basis!

You will see that data at 3 different levels—citywide, by city council district, and by community board. This was an intentional choice because these are the areas where one representative is wholly responsible for and thus can be used to highlight inequities in their area.

Spatial Equity NYC has data concerning health, environment, and mobility. By hosting these data in one website, community members, media, and city officials and their staff can use this information to talk about our largest public space-- our streets in a more wholistic way.

Spatial Equity NYC is a platform that shows the inequity of NYC’s public spaces in its design, distribution, and ability to be accessed. One of its origins was when Miatkowski noticed that all of this interdependent data was not hosted by one site and not easily accessible.

Caregivers—parents, adults caring for elders, support workers—are experts when it comes to identifying where crosswalks are needed, traffic speeds are too high, accessible design upgrades are urgently required, social issues arise, etc. Why is this? #mobility #mobilityequity

We are devastated to learn that a 66-year-old woman was killed this afternoon by a pickup driver while pushing a stroller in Bath Beach, Brooklyn. Our city failed to protect her. This intersection lacked basic protections for pedestrians, like daylighting or curb extensions.
BREAKING NEWS: A 66-year-old woman fatally struck by a Dodge Ram while pushing a 2-year-old girl in a stroller on Bath Avenue in Brooklyn.

These crashes are not distributed equally. Compared to the citywide average, we found serious injury crashes were: 📈 23% higher in the Bronx 📈 21% higher in the lowest-income council districts 📈 15% higher in the districts with the highest percentage of residents of color

4,224 people were seriously injured by crashes between January 2022 and June 2023. For every traffic fatality in NYC, 11 people are seriously injured. Today, we're launching a new dashboard to show that this preventable crisis requires bold action. ➡️ https://t.co/3zor3Oszwx

It's the first day of school for more than one million students across New York City. How can we give them space to learn, play, and grow — without the threat of traffic violence? It's simple: Let's create a car-free School Street at each of New York City's 1,800 schools.

It is back to school season! Parents and guardians as your kids start their commutes to school do you know of any intersections or roads that you worry about them crossing. Report these locations to https://t.co/a6vUihM5W5 📍
