Boosting again. This essay really shows the roots of the Tigray genocide. Abiy was one of countless Oromo peasant soldiers sent as racially despised cannon fodder by Tigrayan officers. 20 yrs later, Abiy returned to Tigray w an unrelenting bloodlust

Difficult to fathom just how many will die if we end up with a reprise of the horror that was the 1998-2000 and 2020-2022 wars all wrapped up into one catastrophic armed conflict. It easily can, and likely will, exceede a million dead.

With last week’s ENDF drone attack on TPLF units that struck Addis’s Tigrayan proxy force, it’s crystal clear any conflict between Addis and Asmara will be far messier than the Badme War...and increasingly looking like Tigray itself likely will become the main theater of war.

The serious escalation in bellicose rhetoric from Addis Ababa over the course of autumn really does make it feel like we are rapidly approaching the true precipice of war between 🇪🇹 and 🇪🇷 this winter

Throwback to 1973 when Emperor Selassie’s regime was begging the Israelis for increased military support in order to prevent the liberation of the Western Somalis and the consequent collapse of the imperial government.

Gripping war history that serves as an essential background on the grim prospect of the resumption of mass-scale conflict between the Ethiopian federal government, Eritrea, and Tigray. Some of the sharpest and most useful analysis I’ve read in a while.

There has been a lot of concern about what an Eritrea/Ethiopia war today could look like and how deadly it could potentially be. @walaalwhoops wrote this excellent history of the time they actually fought to give some indication.

Anyone interested in learning about the 1998-2000 Eri-Ethio border war & how it shaped the trajectories of both countries should give this article a read. Its easily the most accurate and comprehensive commentary I’ve read on this topic from an outsiders perspective.
