One interesting change of using voice to text is I'm a lot more thoughtful about each word and sentence I speak because I want the output to require as little editing as possible. This has seemed to carry over to every day communication too.

If hiring is your bottleneck, treat it like one. Aim for ~10 interviews a week. Source yourself. DM folks on LinkedIn or X. Support your recruiting team directly. Bc recruiting is a team sport. It breaks down when it’s treated like someone else’s job.

Executive hires shape the next decade of a company. At @Zapier, we make just 1 or 2 of these hires a year (about 1% of openings). This week I shared that I aim for 10-20 references from a late-stage exec candidate. Thorough? Yep 😅 But I promise it’s always respectful and built.

Let’s talk reference checks. I aim for 20 ‼️reference calls per exec we hire . For late stage interviews, that means at least 10 (ideally 20) people who’ve worked with them. Former bosses, CEOs, peers, and direct reports. A mix of references they provide and ones I find myself.
