My Masters thesis was on the Academic Preservation of Gospel Music. There are so many unsung heroes of American Music that will never be celebrated because there was no documentation and subsequently erasure of their stories, theory, and methodology.

Gospel music has its own form of training in theory that is rarely documented and celebrated but that technique birthed the greatest vocalist and musicians of all time. I studied this theory and training for my Masters degree thesis portfolio!
I remember a video of Erica Campbell saying that when she stopped her classical vocal training to pursue a career in Gospel music, her teacher said that she would ruin her voice because the technique involved in that type of music isn’t sustainable or reliable. It’s true.

My love, a Scholar in Residence is a student. In these programs, people are commissioned to do extensive research on one subject and then they present their research in forum style lectures quarterly. FYI 💜
How is she not a student first? No publishing, no research but will teach without scholarship?
