Using generative AI does not require an understanding of lighting or perspective or anatomy or any of the things that most forms of art require one to learn. Hell, it doesn't even require you to pick a color of paint to fling at a canvas. That is infinitely more artful.

The skills you learn painting digitally are directly translatable back to traditional. Because you still have to paint every stroke, draw every line, and learn the fundamentals of art. Using generative AI doesn't make you an artist anymore than taping a banana to a wall does.

For anyone who supports generative AI on the grounds that it's no different than digital painting, the "skills" you learn through writing prompts would translate into nothing but knowing more words were the internet to die.
