As a child, Please Mrs Butler was a standout classic, as was Cops and Robbers. As a teacher, The Jolly Postman and Each Peach Pear Plum were standouts for me; lighting up imaginations with laughter and sparking pure joy. RIP Allan Ahlberg

In 1987 my teacher read this book to our class; I’ve never forgotten the experience. I’m reading it again and it’s as brilliant as it was then. Making time for class readers will always happen in our school.

Yesterday, I attended the Buckingham Palace Garden Party, for those working in education and skills. I work, and have worked, with so many incredible people who go above and beyond for children and their families; to be invited to this was both an honour and a privilege.

Residentials can be hard work and a lot of responsibility, but this is always outweighed by the benefits. It’s a privilege to spend time with children who give everything their all. Lucked out with this week’s weather too! #PGL
