I took a photo of the club, and you can compare it with another photo of the same club, this time with the late, great Vin Garbutt posing for his 1977 album 'Eston California'.

The rear of the album featured my fellow Slaggy Islander Vin Garbutt posing outside Cleveland Coke Ovens on Eston Road The rail wagons stand on the line to Eston Mines station. I took a photo at the same location earlier this week, but this site has changed markedly since 1977

Mr Kipling did write exceedingly good poems - and Vin Garbutt sang one exceedingly well. Heard "If" sung before? Try this unaccompanied version, and enjoy the dialect -- https://t.co/HeFZ1TfsuE

"When the oppressed become the oppressor, when the best become the worst, when the meek become the mighty and the blessed become the cursed" https://t.co/pMhvVrSahw Vin Garbutt R.I.P. A gentleman in the real sense with a wry North of England sense of humour. A man of peace.

A warning from Vin Garbutt for those who seem to have lost all sense of humanity all sense of their own history. Also though, to those who are currently "the oppressed" "When oppressed becomes oppressor and the best becomes the worst, When the meek become the mighty and the

@ThumbsMcGhee @odnb @vingarbutt @SantoshDass1048 Dave, Thanks. I thoroughly enjoyed writing the Vin Garbutt entry. It gave me an opportunity to order my thoughts dispassionately. Craig Hornby’s recommended DVD Teesside Troubadour captures his talents beautifully and it’s available at a bargain price at

After forty-plus years on the road, the story of Vin’s roving life is told in this definitive documentary by Craig Hornby (A Century in Stone). Filmed around the world and back in his native North-...

@KenHunt01 @odnb @vingarbutt @SantoshDass1048 Oh, I’ll seek this out: I absolutely loved Vin Garbutt & he often kept me crying with laughter at many gigs with wild shaggy dog stories that suddenly turned into devastating songs that brought me up short. What a talent. Sadly missed.

If you don't know Vin Garbutt, check him out. Maybe star with When the Tide Turns. One of the great folk performers. RIP.
From time to time make a point of listening to some of Vin Garbutt’s brilliant songs @vingarbutt From the finest folk music tradition he was “no platformed” by some of the music world’s establishment - only proving his was a genuinely authentic voice singing songs that matter

Vin Garbutt a brilliant singer/song writer. Regional NE England Accent difficult for some. I think the voice of common sense @netguy1996 might appreciate the lyrics -e.g. "You slaughter little innocents whose own lives can't defend" https://t.co/ADErBoBmev

@vingarbutt proud to say he`s a relative. Bill and I ran the RED LION FOLK CLUB TRIMDON VILLAGE. And it was great to see our Vin when he came, it was always a good night all round. He inspired our son too. Who is now also a troubadour. miss you our kid.

Amazing song that Vin loved to perform! Actually written by his good friend, @KeithHancockBKK
Eureka! After several days racking my brain to think what the Barnsley Carol sounds like I've finally decided it's Absent Friends by Vin Garbutt. A lovely song by a lovely, much missed bloke. https://t.co/5eZ5tiObpt
