I did not anticipate the appetite for a bike shanty, y'all.
It appears I am only writing sea shanties* right now. And because I've never been on a sailing ship (or worked fields, etc.) it appears these shanties are going to be about biking. Maybe next I'll write a drinking song involving mocktails. The muse, she has questionable taste.

* technically not even shanties, much less sea shanties. Apparently those are simple tunes for setting the pace of synchronized group labor, not stories with refrains in 3-part harmony. But there's a reason the word "shanty" caught on and not "maritime ballad"

Meanwhile @folkalliance was last week & I'm so grateful for the existence of Gina Chavez, Allison Russell & many other heroes of indie music (including presenters/promoters!) 💜 They distill the joy not in turning away from hard things, but linking arms to go through them.

The main piece of 1) so far is national debt. As with climate change, we are headed toward tipping points with very bad consequences. But 2) "also tax cuts / absolutely no new taxes" signals total unseriousness about it, or a level of callousness/ignorance I cannot accept

In hanging out here absorbing different perspectives, so far my take is that 1) MAGA/Republicans absolutely have valid concerns that I haven't paid enough attention to 2) I cannot take seriously anyone who thinks this administration is tackling them competently or in good faith

Also true of environmental review for permitting things like clean energy (+ other stuff needed for it to work like transmission, distribution & storage).
Government regulation, not staffing, is the real problem. Cut regulation, and staff cuts can follow. Cut staff without cutting regulation, and the morass only gets worse.

This is a compelling list. Next exercise: what would good unifying* demands of a hostile progressive takeover be? (*alienate some, win over others, net majority) Hunger for shake-up is obvious, but which direction? Full Bernie? Old-school-GOP-but-better? A third-way grab bag?
What would some good unifying demands be for a hostile takeover of the Democratic party by centrists/moderates? I have some ideas....
