General updates from Armenia: - There are some Iranian refugees in Yerevan but nothing very noticeable. -Tourists have vanished, not surprisingly. Hotels are struggling, except those housing refugees. -US diasporan groups already widely cancelling summer trips- come on, guys!!

The way Azerbaijani rhetoric has suddenly switched to protecting their southern brothers (after years of blockade meant to keep them out) feels like the early stages of a Miatsum movement, exactly the thing Azerbaijanis claimed to hate. It could lead them down years of warfare.

Much of Kocharyan's base has apparently defected to Samvel Karapetyan, basically a Kocharyan-lite with a lot less baggage. This could be a wash-out for the current elected opposition unless they form a coalition.

New poll by IRI contains a grim forecast for the Armenia Alliance (Kocharyan and ARF-Dashnaktsutyn)- 3% would vote for them (with a big 40% who are undecided or refused to answer). Even if they double that in the election, they'd still miss the 7% threshold to enter parliament.

If true then Nakhichevan is completely cut off from Azerbaijan proper, and almost cut off from the entire world except for a single road from Turkey. Armenia has been offering to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan and open the borders immediately but Aliyev refuses.

My point is Azerbaijan kept bragging how it doesn't need Armenia, let the borders remain closed forever... it'll just go through Iran instead. Turns out Azerbaijan needs Armenia more than it realized, and it should have realized that long ago but it was too self-impirtant.

The @AliTahmizian "be super wrong in every tweet" challenge is undefeated. *Armenia was placed on the blacklist by the EU, not by its official. *FlyArna was founded in 2021, AFTER the blacklisting in 2020. Thus the blacklisting did not suddenly sabotage the airline's success.
