The water level of #LakeVictoria has now decreased about 25 cm from its peak in May, however, it is still high! The rainy season is not so far off and the GEFS forecast shows increased precipitation in the coming weeks, when will the lake start rising again?

Thanks to less rain in the basin and the spilling by @Eskomug the water level of #LakeVictoria has started to decrease over the past month. However, there is still a long way down to normal water levels.

The water level in #LakeVictoria have now reduced slightly. It looks like they will keep stable until the end if June.

The last satellite measurement shows a 2 cm water level decrease in #LakeVictoria over the last 10 days (until May 27th). The rains in the GFS forecast are not too much, maybe we have seen the peak? @Eskomug @UegclOfficial

GEFS weather forecasts still have quite a lot of rain for the coming weeks, so the water level of #LakeVictoria might increase ~10 cm towards the end of May (based on linear correlation of past rainfall and water level changes, other factors will also affect this).

Just looking at how the water level could develop for the next months based on the past seasonal water level changes in #LakeVictoria, it looks like this. The lake will most likely still increase a bit, but then reduce again after a while.

Comparing the #LakeVictoria water level from satellite monitoring with the rainfall data, shows that the two align quite well. The water level is now at it highest for a long time and has been increasing since October. The latest 10 day rainfall was also a lot.

Since the beginning of this year, the rainfall over the #LakeVictoria basin has been exceptionally high! This has caused the water level increase a lot(daily rainfall data from NOAA/CPC)
