Tsunami update as of 6:45pm PT: A tsunami has been generated, and it was damaging near epicenter. Tsunami Warnings remain in effect for many Pacific Islands (including Hawaii) and SW AK. However, for U.S./Canada West Coast, Watch *has been canceled* & converted to "Advisory."

In terms of threat to California specifically: The threat is still being evaluated, but is potentially significant (hence the Watch). The first waves would not arrive in California until around midnight Pacific Time, however, so there's plenty of time to react if needed.
