A good training day should have you slowly climbing in intensity during the warm up, peaking in intensity with the skill, and then slowly tapering the intensity as we perform our general work. A look into a Quadrant 3 day for me currently.

Another Monday here in Tampa. The boys are still getting after it and attacking the training relentlessly.

Training has been awful as of late. Elbow hurts, haven’t thrown above 90 since my mocap. Good reminder to myself of how hard training actually is on the body and mind. Progress is never linear. Just have to keep showing up and getting it done. Time to reset and attack these

A common phrase I’ve been saying this summer is “try harder”. One thing that I have noticed is that a lot of athletes train at a way lower intensity than they need to be at to create the adaptation we are looking for. During any speed or power work, move as fast as you can

With my throwing volume going from zero over the last 2 years to now throwing on a daily basis, my elbow hasn’t been responding extremely well to the spike in workload. Here’s a look into some of my arm care throughout the week to strengthen the forearm flexors and muscles that

Besides actually throwing, sprinting might be the only thing I will always have in every single program in any capacity. Resisted, COD, Fly 10’s… it doesn’t matter. Go sprint. You are probably slow like me.

When learning a new skill, it is important to remember that failing is a part of the process. Through failure, we receive more information from the environment and become more attuned to the affordance landscape. This allows us to find the best solution for the task at hand.

Turning your warmup sets on the main compounds into ballistics is such an easy way to train power. Having real intent behind every rep is key for maximal motor unit recruitment. Plus it’s cool to throw heavy ass weight around.

Always good to see someone you know willing to make sacrifices to get better. @DeclanMagee20 came through the facility to get an idea of where he currently stacks up against his competition, and what he needs to do to get even better. Big things coming soon for Declan!

On high-intent days, a big emphasis of the warm up is to raise arousal levels and prep the athlete for high intensity efforts. One of my favorite ways to do that is by competing during the warm-up. Some of my go-to’s are boxer tag, partner combatives, and chased sprints. Super
