and by that point, changing needs would effectively make the gripen E a pointless purchase and would drag the RCAF behind contemporaries, especially when they already allocated funds to buy f-35, and the fact alot of canadian companies contributed to the JSF program

despite all the talks of canada buying gripen E, i think the guys at the top brass of RCAF knows that despite it's performance (mind you, it came 2nd before f-35 last competition), the logistics and the amount of time until they get their first batch would be too expensive
