We had a report today of an injured badger in a primary school playground. The badger wasn't just sleeping, they seemed wobbly. We've no idea why but they're now at Vale wildlife being assessed. π€

Yesterday we were called about a badger with blood on its rear. We were pretty sure, from the description, it was a bite from another badger and, as it was moving well, expected the badger to be home safely. However, we did check the area in case. No sign so π€

Daughter and I had showers and put our cosy pyjamas on. Big mistake. Quick change and off we went. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, Badger died on arrival at Vale. Only consolation was that the Badger was elderly, going by his teeth πͺ

Disappointed? Yes Surprised? No
Sir Charles Godfray Report to Government continues to blame badgers for bovine TB spread & makes it even less likely culling will end before the 2029 election The report states βThe evidence shows that badgers do transmit bovine TB to cattle and contribute to the persistence

We didn't get the call until Monday and two of our volunteers searched the area and couldn't find them.

On Sunday a concerned resident phoned a local vet about a motionless badger in the street. The vets told her to leave the badger alone and it was most likely hibernating. For those in doubt, badgers do not hibernate and I don't think any animals in UK do in August π€―+1

Another call tonight about a limping badger. Badgers are very robust and, as long as they otherwise look well, we wouldn't intervene. People think we don't care, which is not true.
