Born in Mendota Heights, Minnesota, Ann Bancroft is the first woman to cross the ice to both the North and South Poles. Her achievements earned her a spot in the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1995 and made her a true Minnesota trailblazer. 💙

31 years ago today, on January 14, 1993, Minnesota’s own Ann Bancroft and the American Women’s Expedition made history as the first all-woman team to reach the South Pole after 67 days and 660 miles of skiing.

2️⃣ The 1888 Children’s Blizzard: One of Minnesota’s deadliest storms. Tragically, half of the 200–230 deaths were children trying to walk home from school.
