Our study suggests that psychosocial and comparative processes play an important role in the development of economic inequalities in adolescents’ psychological distress. (7/9).

Within countries, adolescents' subjective perception of how wealthy they are was more strongly associated with their level of psychological distress, compared to the objective measures: income and consumption expenditure. (6/9).

Given the differences between countries, further research is needed in low- and middle-income countries where 90% of the worlds' adolescents live, but where much less research is carried out, rather than assuming findings from one country can be used to infer about another. (5/9).

The cross-country differences highlights the potential role of societal context within countries in shaping the magnitude of economic inequalities in adolescents’ mental health. (4/9).

Across countries, adolescents' economic circumstances were more strongly associated with psychological distress in the lower-income countries compared to higher-income countries. (3/9).

We investigated how different measures of economic circumstances were associated with adolescents' future levels of psychological distress (internalising symptoms), in eight different countries: 🇦🇺🇪🇹🇮🇳🇲🇽🇵🇪🇿🇦🇬🇧🇻🇳 (2/9).
