Work was led by my excellent @PsyLifeLab PhD student @HummaAndleeb based in @UCLPsychiatry & @UCLPALS, who is studying why migration increases psychosis risk for many groups. 7/n.

Limitations of the study include the small sample size when stratified by age at migration & ethnicity, the case-control study design (essentially, cross-sectional) & missing data (handled via multiple imputation). 5/n.

Data came from 5 countries in the #EUGEI study of first episode psychosis on 2132 participants. The increased risk with migration during adolescence was not explained by ethnic differences in the sample, measures of socioeconomic position or parental mental health. 2/n.

Our new paper on age at #migration and #psychosis risk is out today in @PLOSMentalHlth. We find that migrating during adolescence, defined in the study as 11-17 years old, is associated with almost twice the risk of psychosis cf. non-migrants. 1/n.
