There has been some criticism on Twitter today about a story published on Stuff and in Wednesday’s Dominion Post. We stand by our report and our reporter — and our commitment to call out racism. Here is the editor’s response to the complainant (who is not the victim)

@sarahfreenz Nice dig at the Dom Post, along with Sean Rush, but you both know as well as I do that we sit through all of the council meetings in their entirety, including the recent online ones, to report the news for the city.

Just a tweet to say I appreciate @TovaOBrien, who puts up with a titlewave of abuse everyday but still gets the job done.

It took me the whole afternoon to get to the bottom of this and it’s a very different story to KiwiRail’s press release. During the course of the dispute KiwiRail went as far as to take Earthquake-Prone Building signs down at the station, via @nzherald
nzherald.co.nz
City council says station earthquake prone but KiwiRail has spent years arguing it isn't.

This isn't the first time a NZ university has used a 'booking issue' as the reason to cancel an event the Chinese Govt doesn't want to go ahead. Raises qs of foreign interference, freedom of speech & an operating model reliant on intl student fees.

Acting CE at Hutt City Council has just changed the rules in how they will process OIA requests prior to the election. Anything taking over an hour to process will incur a charge. To change this suddenly, prior to an election, is an attack on accountability and transparency...
