Senate GOP argues Dem proposal to make a crime of making a threat of mass violence doesn’t go far enough, more work needed. Bill sponsor Sen. Todd Kaminsky said he’s sought the bill for years: “I’ll be damned if I’ll do nothing. It took two tragedies to make this happen.”

Today I took the opportunity to thank some of our legislators who are retiring from the legislature — some after decades of public service. Thank you for all you've done for the Empire State!

To the many who have sent prayers to my staff member Zeneta & her son Zaire following yesterday’s shooting in Buffalo - thank you. Those prayers have been answered. He is now home resting, & beginning the healing process. Please continue to pray for the families of those lost.

Tonight, a member of my staff, my extended family, is at ECMC when she should be at home. She’s sitting in a hospital waiting room, because her beautiful, extraordinary son was shot while he was simply doing his job. My full statement on today’s shooting in Buffalo is below:

Praying for the people of Buffalo. But when will we wake up and realize that it’s not ok to have a country where even a grocery store isn’t safe….and that allowing people to have high-powered rifles will consistently lead to unspeakable tragedy.
