An (authorised) visit to Hilden Mill #Lisburn last week. It's sad to see the state of the site. Linen thread wasn't sexy but it was ubiquitous, and Barbour Threads was a global brand. The buildings are a monument to our great industrial past, and we shouldn't lose them.

The owners of Hilden Mill, near Lisburn, have filed an application for the demolition of listed buildings, with the part retention of two buildings adjacent to Mill St. The site location plan suggests it would involve demolishing the majority of the mill.

Fascinating. Sgt McCarthy went to the Isle of Man to look out for Swanzy. He settled in #Lisburn. I visited the remains of his house and spoke with family. He continued communicating with Irene Swanzy, living in Fiji, until the 1950s. Correspondence is held in @Lisburn_Museum
