Another housing win for Labour, fixing the nutrient neutrality issues by creating a nature restoration fund paid into by developers in areas of high nutrient pollution. Labour promised a win-win for housing and nature and is delivering in government.

This makes sense with a lot of the Greens' housing vision - it's not a policy plan so much as a political one. By focusing on the activity of the 'villains' of the housing crisis, it can paint a simple 'problem/solution' story rather than dealing with the complexity.

But the strangest thing about the Greens' platform is that. a lot of it exists? They talk about making developers pay for infrastructure, but this already happens with S.106, or about raising environmental standards, which is already happening though the Future Homes Standard.

But it's also clear that, when taken together, the Greens' platform would absolutely flatten housing supply. This might not worry many on the left, but the delivery of market rate housing is also crucial for building social housing as well.

Lots of what the Greens stand for is. kinda fine? Lots of it is stuff which Labour is doing in government, including investing into housing decarbonisation and improving renters' rights.

So, at some point we need to start talking about the Greens and housing. Lots of Labour folk online like to talk about Green councillors blocking developments, or wading into debates about rent controls. But what is the Greens' housing vision, and why should it worry us? 🧵.

NEW ARTICLE | Green populism will not solve the housing crisis . With the Greens' electoral strength growing, Red Brick editor @toal_alex writes that their housing platform only attempts to find the housing crisis’ villains rather than its solutions.

Reform UK's housing policy spreads disinformation on migration while helping to maintain the status quo behind the housing crisis.

Most importantly, it is important for everyone to realise just how completely devoid from fact Reform's allocations policy is. While it is absolutely right to recognise that some voters have concerns around migration, we cannot have this discussion on Reform's terms.
