Landlords have used algorithmic software to set rents and argued in court it's not illegal. Here in NC, I filed HB 970 to make clear that price fixing through algorithms is still price fixing. Now the GOP would put rentseekers first and bar states from protecting their people.

NC House Republicans filed a bill totally banning abortion with no exception for rape or incest. This bill would force a teenage girl who was abused to bear her assailant’s child. It’s dangerous and wrong. I and @NCHouseDems will fight this extreme ban every step of the way.

The first bill I filed this session was HB 181, the Tax Relief for Working Families Act, which reenacts NC’s Earned Income Tax Credit. Together, these two bills are laser-focused on lifting up North Carolina families and those who work hard but just can’t get ahead. #ncpol

Today I filed HB 628 to reenact the Child Tax Credit in our state. North Carolina parents are worried about the cost of living and a child tax credit would help bring them relief. #ncpol

Among those @NC_Governor recognized in the State of the State was Ali Setser, my 5th grade teacher and now principal of my elementary school in Greenville. I’m so thankful for her role in my life and the role she’s played for countless kids in ENC. Let’s keep NC strong. #ncga

While I’m disappointed the majority rejected my amendment keeping unemployment benefits where they are, which would help folks across NC, especially those laid off due to Helene, I and @NCHouseDems will keep fighting for hardworking North Carolinians and their families. #ncpol.

Even though they ratified Cooper’s Helene order for $600 through 3/1, NCGA House Republicans voted against extending that rate, dropping it by $150. $150 more will not hurt the state, but it would help NCans keep food on the table & a roof over their families during hard times.

Republicans didn’t like Gov. Cooper raising benefits on his own. That’s why in SB 382, which claimed to provide “disaster relief,” they inserted a provision banning governors from using their powers under the Emergency Mgmt Act to extend unemployment benefits in disasters.

Gov. Cooper makes a key point about SB382, which I spoke to on the floor: under the guise of “disaster relief,” the NCGA majority in fact seeks to stop the governor from temporarily extending jobless benefits to those who lose jobs due to a natural disaster. #ncpol.

Gov. Cooper’s Helene order increasing UI benefits to $600 got unanimous, bipartisan support from the Council of State. Why? The $350 cap hadn’t been increased in over a decade. While employers’ taxable wage base increases every year, max benefits don’t.

The order applies across the state, but 80% of new unemployment claims are coming from counties impacted by Hurricane Helene.

They voted it down even though the nonpartisan Fiscal Research Division concluded the Unemployment Trust Fund would continue to grow by over a billion dollars by 2028-29—even with my amendment. They argue it needs to be saved for a rainy day, but many NCans face rainy days now.
