Good post, from a good thread, with a link that mentions a great book (The Code - Silicon Valley and the Remaking of America by @margaretomara) - on the government spending roots of the valley, which are deep and go back a long way.
X : What has Edison got to do with it. Me : Edison pushed the US Navy to create the Naval Research Labs and encouraged federal funding of defence technology research. It was such DOD funding that later bankrolled the creation of Silicon Valley -
