In the end, ONLY your family remembers these “extra miles, work from home and on the weekend” shenanigans. Your workplace forgets.
It really pays to go that extra mile at your work. Take work home with you. Work after hours. Be available over the weekend when you're needed, even though you don't get that overtime. Build a trustworthy persona that will reward you tremendously in the future. Take that chance.

These are only “fantasies/illusions” if you’re a refugee, seeking asylum or from a war torn country.
An unspoken blessing of migrating by choice from a peaceful environment is that you always have the option to go home and reunite with your peers and loved ones.
