In the last few years that I’ve worked with applicants to apply for Chevening I’ve learnt something about Zambians. When they achieve success, they aren’t willing to help others do the same because if everyone achieves it, it will no longer be “special”. Such a strange mindset.

To avoid sensationalism and misinformation, it is better to speak on events when we have full information. 1. Driver did not drive into the traffic lights- it was a hit and run accident involving a truck. 2. Driver did not abandon the car but was rushed to the hospital.

In any conversation with my fellow Zambians, there will be negative comments comments about: - Married people - Bama PhD - Diaspora - Employees Is it difficult to have a conversation with someone without feeling the need to criticise a random group you associate them with?

Ultimately, no matter how much belief, mentoring, acceleration, and struggle we endured, it became apparent that the "ecosystem" had rules. There were technologies to build, networks to tap into, a language to speak, norms, and financial considerations we needed to observe.

PRO TIP: If the primary motivation is money, the "devs" (software developers, tech bros, etc) are an untapped market. These folks have money, and they don't stress about polo or vets. They even go to East Park time time.

Dear Edwina, Our offices are not in Lilayi, and the last time we checked, you're not in the business of lion-spotting. Kindly refer to your JD, and remember we give you a transport allowance. You're now late for our 8 o'clock meeting.

@FMwenge Salary is the bribe they give you to forget your dreams. Better fye you become an entrepreneur and work for yourself. 82 pin is too small. Employees can never get rich 🌚

A PhD doesn't require you to be smart. But, it does require being mentally and emotionally mature. Getting to the end is not child's play. Well done @idlidosa2 !

These are only “fantasies/illusions” if you’re a refugee, seeking asylum or from a war torn country. An unspoken blessing of migrating by choice from a peaceful environment is that you always have the option to go home and reunite with your peers and loved ones.

I’m fascinated by many African immigrants’ obsession with building houses “back home” & the fantasies/illusions of return these projects represent. It’s like they are dealing with the trauma of dislocation by physically rooting these structures as their place holders.

Here's my follow-up to this conversation, detailing which ministries I think might need changes and why. I'll start with a brief background on what I meant by "next phase of the plan" LONG🧵

HH must now seriously consider reshuffling his cabinet. Some of the incumbents will frustrate the next phase of the plan if he leaves them in office. We are happy to name names if he wants us to.

I'm free to use any road in this country. But, when I use the road in a way that puts other road users and pedestrians in danger, I must be called to order. The same principle applies to other freedoms. Freedom is absolute, but it comes with a duty to care for others.

Well, then, what is freedom of expression? Idk, but the idea of saying "Certain discussions are prohibited" is certainly against the principle of freedom of expression. Quite tight, seeing as I completely and wholeheartedly disagree with anything that threatens our democracy.…

We need to separate person from function, and party from government. This is something we haven't done too well in the past and that's why we had people like Davis Mwila thinking they can make national decisions. Each of us must carry the burdens of our duties gracefully.

The “space” in “shrinking democratic space”, does it reference a physical entity (the distance between point A and point B) or are we constructing “space” in non-spatial terms? How big has the democratic space previously been? What’s the current size of this space?

All these things had individuals (at the top) who were benefitting from the status quo. No matter how well intended the programs were, we were just numbers, statistics to report, leverage for funding, etc. And I am not against that, I respect it.
