Voiceover artists - one of our VOs reported a possible scam email. After replying, they were asked to move the chat to Telegram. We recommend keeping all correspondence via email addresses which show their proper company domain name (not Gmail etc).

Another great team lunch at the amazing Gipsy Moth pub. Thanks to the voiceover artist who knew we were going and tried to call up and buy us a drink! They didn’t catch your name, but thank you. ❤️

• Confirm before starting work that you will request be paid via a known and trusted method. Ideally obtain pre or part payment. • Search online for the company plus “scam” or “fraud” If in any doubt, reach out to others in the VO community. Let’s help protect one another.

...especially from someone claiming to be from a major AI or tech company: • Double-check the sender’s email domain carefully (does it match with their website). • Don’t send money or ID documents to unlock payments ...

This kind of scam is particularly insidious because it mimics genuine projects, includes creative engagement, and often uses realistic websites and WhatsApp for communication. If you’re contacted out of the blue with an exciting-sounding project...

Tactics used included: • Using a legitimate company’s name to establish trust • Emotional manipulation via a compelling script • Fake/Dodgy payment/escrow platforms with interactive chat support • Demands for ID documents and small payments to release funds

After completing the work, the artist was asked to retrieve payment through a seemingly legitimate but fake online payment/escrow platform. They were then pressured into paying fees (e.g. for VAT or COT codes) in order to “unlock” their payment.

We’ve been made aware of a recent scam targeting voice artists. The scam involves a fake job offer from someone claiming to represent a recognised company. The offer included a well-written, emotive script and a contract for a large creative/narration project.

Happy Friday everybody! I noticed that at least one newspaper is highlighting this today. Don't forget, the UK government AI consultation ends Tuesday. It's a beast, so if you're looking to complete it then I'd recommend you do asap! #voiceovers
