In September I’m running 7 ultras in 7 days to fundraise for @maggiesedinburg and @EVHandJigsaw in memory of my Mum. The 368 km route goes from Edinburgh, via Newcastle, to Cumbria 🏃♂️. Please share far and wide! See the link below if you'd like to donate:

At Northern Research Station we've sown 10 provenances of Scots pine from across Europe (see map)🌲. So far they're growing well!. After another growing season they'll be planted at two multispecies common gardens in the UK as part of a wider European network @OptFORESTS

A couple snaps from sowing our Scots pine seeds with @UK_CEH colleagues last week - luckily the sun was shining! .These seeds are sourced from across Scottish pinewoods and we're raising thousands of trees to plant in research trials to test local adaption and adaptability 🌲🧬

It was great to be invited to the @EnvLeeds alumni careers event yesterday. There were some very inspiring stories from other panellists. I enjoyed speaking to postgrad researchers about my role @Forest_Research, and the options for research outside of a university setting🌲🌳🔬

The first sessile oak seedling of the spring has emerged on the nursery! . This plant is of Slovenian provenance, but we're growing oaks from provenances across Europe. These will be planted at two UK sites as part of a wider European network of common gardens @OptFORESTS🌳🌲🧬

It's been great to see many of these sites in person and thanks to @Forest_Research's Technical Services Unit (TSU) for organising things on the ground, as well as to landowners for granting permission. 2/2
