Say it with me.
Capitalism Kills Art.
We used to have patrons who paid for artists to just BE artists and create work. Now we have overlords who only care about how they can pry five more cents from the hands of starving, desperate people who need escape from reality

He's apparently suing the BBC. He was never paid for the appearance and is now suing them for royalties because of their frequent circulation of the clip.
I hope he wins and gets the payment he deserves.
Every day I think about the fact that cast members were asking to have Nat go shirtless as Swede and in the S1 finale they just went in whole hog and stripped him down to a pair of booty shorts.
Thank you so much to

and everyone else who made this moment possible!

While I appreciate all representation - as long as it's not harmful - I'm seriously disappointed at the lack of fat queer people in media and by the fact that fat queer people also tend to be ignored in fandom spaces.
I'm just glad to see some chonky queer rep.
Just a reminder that David Zaslav's 240M bonus in 2021 could have funded between 48 and 120 full length episodes of TV, or paid the entire production budget of Coyote vs Acme three times over.

It seems like tumblr thinks the crew would forget Swede and leave him behind, but I think Roach would keep track of him. Gotta preserve that delicious meat, right?

A reminder that WBD under David Zaslav is paying about 2 BILLION dollars for the upcoming Harry Potter show. That amount could fund between 400 and 1000 episodes of other shows (about 57 to 142 episodes, or about 5-14 tv shows a year)

I actually think Izzy will be back in S3 and that it was intended that way from S1, tbh.
S2 finale feels like a rare "false victory" in a 3 act structure and the Izzy storyline in that actually begins in S1 ep2 and trails/echoes Ed's storyline throughout.(cont)

Or Lilly could actually reduce the cost of the damned drugs which were cost literal pennies to produce instead of forcing people to pay ridiculous prices for life saving drugs that were meant to be cheap or free.

The figure they quoted to actual fix it was 30B a year which is a fraction of what they spend on the Military Defense budget.
If they can spend 800B a year on the military, why can't they take 30B of that and help homeless veterans and everyone else?
There is no excuse.

A good read on another reason why studio claims are having trouble gaining traction with audiences. It's not just the creative folks in the industry getting the shaft, they've also jerked around audiences so much that they've destroyed almost all trust.

There's plenty of new ideas. Craig McCracken pitched 16 brand new shows to Netflix and was turned down on every single one. Execs make the decision on what gets made, what gets written, all of that stuff. If creatives got to pick, there'd be more original content

Just adding a note since people asked for things similar to that second concept, Good Omens is basically that, except it's 6000 years and the immortal sworn-enemies-slash-besties are middle-aged men.
Fun fact: Screenprinting is a lot older than people seem to think. It originated in China in the 900s and used mesh made of human hair. So it's not entirely out of the question that screenprinted shirts COULD exist in the 1700s. TBH if anyone would have them, it would be Jackie

To do correction they have to feed in all your readings to make sure it sounds right. This means the AI is trained on your voice and that they can therefore do "your voice" without needing you, thus eliminating future jobs which they can feed into a machine for free.

SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher spells it out very clearly, what big business doesn't want people to know. This strike is important because it sets a precedent for business going forward, in this industry and in others. We must be unified or we will all lose to corporate greed

So, read this tumblr thread to understand why OFMD's cancellation is even worse:
They're spending likely around 2 Billion dollars on a show that profits JKR. Clearly they don't care about LGBTQ people. [cont]

The other problem here is the ability of companies to take down things you've purchased digitally with no warning. I've had entire shows just vanish from itunes and DRM prevents the ability to have copies they can't just remove. If I bought it, I should own it. Period.
...Do people not just block people to keep things they don't want to see off the timeline? I block so many people for completely impersonal reasons because I just don't want more of that on my dash. It's called curating your online experience.

He could never make another cent and he would still be earning millions per year based on his current wealth and assets. There is no need for him to decide to pay himself hundreds of millions in bonuses and write it off as an "expense" for the business.
White people from the USA posting about how they're better than some random actor because they're "not complicit in genocide" as though they aren't literally living on indigenous land built up on the backs of slave labor and saying nothing about it most of the goddamn time.
@MorePerfectUS
This needs to end. J&J is far from the only company who is doing this kind of thing and it should be cracked down on. All this nonsense about "investors being the ones taking the risks" as an excuse to not pay workers more is nothing more than a flimsy excuse.

While I agree with most of these, I'm pretty sure it's canonical - in the book, at least - that Aziraphale is so meticulous in reporting his taxes that the tax people think he must be doing something illegal but can't prove it.

In S1, the first time we see Izzy interact with the crew, it's with Buttons. Buttons asks if he's real or a phantasm. (more on Buttons later) It's a very deliberate wording. (cont)
It rings false in the episode because it IS false.
There are a lot of false notes in the ending, tbh. This is all indicative that this is not actually a victory, but merely a false victory. This is far less common at this point in a story than a false defeat, btw (cont)
And is anyone even vaguely convinced that the right ending for Ed and Stede is running a random inn? Djenk's manner of addressing that is so deliberately vague. We all know it was intended as a 3 season arc from fairly far back in the writing process (cont)
You can tell it's a false victory because everyone gets "a win" but none of those wins are actually satisfying. Jim gets with Archie but it breaks up them and Olu. Ed and Stede are running an inn but neither of them actually want that. (cont)
I'm formulating some thoughts that might be helpful when it comes to how best to approach other networks about picking up OFMD.
Lots of notes, but a big BIG one is this: Don't focus on the benefit to the fans, focus on the benefit to the studio. Give them real numbers. [cont]
More evidence of this is in their treatment of the Swede. He could easily have been written off, even in a (relatively) satisfying way, but instead they choose to bring him back with the crew at the end of S2. (Cont)
Knowing the type of story you're dealing with is a key component in identifying the structural set up and OFMD is both a Romcom and a Found Family. We see that from Ep 1. I think it still IS supposed to be that, since a full pivot in the third act is rare (cont)
So there's a lot that's "wrong" with the ending of S2, but on the surface it's pretending to be a happy ending. This is very in line with a False Victory narrative. (cont)
Also, I just think the relationship between Jim and the Swede is adorable. Jim is this tough badass but keeps going to the Swede's rescue. Even when they didn't want to go on the search for oranges, they still did when the Swede asked them for help.

83% of actors can't afford rent or health insurance. They literally proposed scanning extras and making them sign contracts giving away rights to their own likenesses. This strike isn't FOR Matt Damon and other wealthy actors, it's for the vast majority of people making pennies.
@MULawPoll
You claim to be "Nonpartisan" in your description. Why are you choosing to conflate Hamas with Palestine as though they're all the same? That's basically like conflating all of the USA with Neo-Nazis or the KKK just because we're from the same country.
Just a reminder that David Zaslov's 40M bonus in 2023 could have funded the production at least one full 10 episode season of a TV show, and possibly a full season of 2 shows.

We're show that Buttons actually possesses magical powers. This is completely unnecessary in the current storyline, except for Buttons' knowledge of the Gravy Basket (ie: purgatory/some aspect of the afterlife) (cont)
Numbers cannot be refuted.
When pitching to a studio, one usual requirement is to include things like your target market (size, configuration, spending power). Your target market is what you're selling to the new network. [cont]
Most importantly, as the one who brings up the concept of the Gravy Basket - as a form of in-between realm straddling life and death - we have set up Buttons as almost a psychopomp role. He is the connection between them and the supernatural realm (cont)
Similarly, they could have taken an easy victory by setting up a poly quad group with Jim and co which would have been far more satisfying for the fans than the current state of things. So why didn't they take the easy win? (cont)
Also, we don't have resolution between Ed and Stede on several fronts, not the least of which is the very deliberate point of having Ed say "I love you" and not having it returned. (cont)
We see Ed reach a point of near suicidal ideation leading to him self-destructing and going to the Gravy Basket. The only thing that saves him is his connection (Stede) in the living realm. Otherwise he would have died. (cont)
ngl, the cancellation of OFMD seems an awful lot like retaliation against the fans for being so supportive of the strikes and other causes that threaten to erode people at the top, like Zaslav.
From the viewpoint of a three act structure and with the genre being romcom/found family, the story cannot end with the characters not being a found family. That's the entire point of the setup. (cont)
Now, going back to introduced elements. In this case: Buttons. His role in the story has always leaned into the supernatural elements of the show, something they don't confirm fully until S2. (cont)
We see the parallel of this in Izzy, who has a similar suicidal ideation born of the fact that he feels he's not worthy of redemption yet. He even twists the affection/love of the crew toward him into insisting it's toward Ed (it's not) (cont)
TW: suicidal ideation
Izzy's arc has been a mirror/parallel of Ed's throughout. I have a lot of thoughts on this but the details aren't important in a story structure sense. Needless to say, the two character are connected in a story structure sense. (cont)
That means this ending is, by its very existence, not the real ending. Normally in a "false victory" scenario, everything immediately falls apart when you enter the third act, because it's built on nothing (cont)
Amazon's primary service isn't streaming, it's selling. Shows like Good Omens actually include links to merchandise for the show direct from the streaming page. If you pitch to Amazon, include how much fans spend and how willing people are to pay money for physical products[cont]

That's not the job of the union and if they agree the studios will just want higher earning members to cover even more things too. The studios can afford to pay and they should be paying, regardless. This isn't a GoFundMe. Pay the damn workers.

It'd also be really nice if fans would also do this with their fanworks, tbh. By this point, I feel like mentions of HP should be treated as a relatively common trigger that needs to be tagged, considering JK Rowling is basically her own warning.

The majority of his money is not actual money or even in a bank account, it's in stocks and money-generating assets like properties. These things keep the money coming in continually even when he's not working.
Such a cute detail that the Swede has one sock bunched around his lower leg instead of pulled up properly. Olu also doesn't have his pants tucked into his legging in this.
@paul_lander
And even if 20B isn't enough to end homelessness in the USA, it would make a pretty damn big dent in it. "It won't fix everything" is not an excuse to fix NOTHING.
As much as I love the romance in OFMD - and I really do - I feel that we as a fandom don't speak nearly enough about the found family dynamics of the Revenge crew outside of where it relates to the central romance.
