direction and streams flow to E and W. The network was flawless, originally designed for irrigation but could be (/had been) used to efficiently keep the city from ever flooding. Where will the water go but flood, if you build hi-tech parks, and every other building on these.

Bangalore has a beautiful topography and factoring in this natural drainage, man-made streams (rajakaaluve) and lakes network was designed by the great Kempegowda. The maps taken from the 2031 Bangalore Masterplan (scrapped) show the ridge that cuts across the city in N-S

Urban planning and even its implementation is secondary. First is political 'will'. It can make or break a city - sometimes, beyond repair.

California is collapsing. If it were a country, it'd be the 5th largest economy in the world. But it lost 500,000 residents in 2 years – and people are still fleeing. Here's how politics & greed ruined the best place on Earth:

I analysed 'prominent' districts according to migration patterns of India using network analysis. Read more about it in the link below. Bangalore is the most important hub while Delhi and Mumbai retain their importance as well. This analysis also gives .

Functional is what makes cities 'planned', Not Form. Form may be a side product which emerges on its own - each city unique in its own right, but it cannot be central to what constitutes 'planning'. We want affordable and livable, before looking for aesthetics.

And not regulating every single aspect of every building. There is no denying that there are glaring inadequacies in provision of infrastructure (political will, corruption, limited resources, costs etc, all add up), but 'looking good' should not be a criteria. Making cities.

I strongly disagree. Just because a view of the city 'looks good' from the top, doesn't mean it is good and neither does 'dense looking' built-up mean it is a case of bad planning. We generally plan cities for people. Where planning comes in is for provision of infrastructure,.

India needs better architecture and aesthetics. Our cities are all pathetic in planning, space, cleanliness, colors, beautiful plantations etc. Here's Barcelona compared to Delhi on the left. A complete overhaul is needed. 🧵 Thread.
