One of the most frequent jobs on board Massey Shaw is cleaning the numerous brass items throughout the vessel. Here's a video of our Financial director Bill Scott polishing the main monitor. As Bill says, a donation towards polish or rags/cakes and energy goes a long way!

Our dedicated volunteers have been hard at work, focusing on cleaning out the bilges and engine water filters. A special mention goes to David for his excellent work in repairing the deck locker cover. We encourage everyone to get involved by volunteering or donating!

As you will all be aware, the fact our engine still remains in pieces has stopped us from taking Massey over to France for a number of years. However, we're proud that David and Bill will be attending in France and sporting the Dunkirk Watch!

We hosted a lovely family on the Massey today. Ray, on the right with his wife, daughter and her partner, was a post-war auxiliary fireman whose father served on the Massey. We think in the post-war period, probably around the mid-1950s. The family spent almost 2.5 hours with us!

Our volunteers are truly innovative! A particularly difficult item to clean are these valves, so Derek came up with a simple but ingenious tool to compress them to allow cleaning of the collets at the top of the valve.

Last week saw Phil and his family visit Massey Shaw and have a tour of the vessel and it's history whilst also donating a number of items into our archives. Phil father was a Company Officer in the NFS and River Thames Formation and server on fireboat Beta III.
