6 years of unrelenting government attacks on our freedom to be our own bosses, condensed into a 5-minute speech and these 2 key sentences: "This is not targeting employee misclassification. This is weaponizing regulatory language to attack independent contractors."

This sounds exactly like what's happening with independent-contractor policy. Endless research and data shows most of us prefer to be self-employed. We're entrepreneurial. But unionists keep trying to portray us as victims who need union protection.
Union Organizing Narratives @EdWorkforceCmte testimony: "After filing for an election, organizers issued public statements and videos portraying our store as an abusive workplace, but those narratives did not align with our experiences" Michael Alcorn, Trader Joe employee on his

Tell me again how New Jersey businesses are magically going to create traditional W-2 jobs for an estimated 1.7 million independent contractors, just because NJDOL wishes it were so And then give me a ride on your unicorn to Fantasyland
The US economy is in a hiring recession. Almost no jobs have been added since April. Wage gains are slowing. 710,000 more people are unemployed now versus November 2024. November +64,000 jobs October -105,000 (impacted by shutdown) September +108,000 August -26,000 July

Congratulations to my fellow award-winner @RepBobOnder 👏👏👏 Thank you for trying to protect independent contractors like me! (Also, as a Mizzou J-School grad, I would like to add “Go Tigers!”)
We are thrilled to honor @RepBobOnder as a 2025 Defender of Worker Freedom Award. Thank you for all your efforts for workers in Missouri and across America.

New from me: Overly restrictive independent-contractor policy doesn’t magically create W-2 jobs. It means the government tells companies that if they continue to work with independent contractors, then they may face fines and penalties. https://t.co/HFHcFfpmfF

New Jersey's unemployment rate is up. Companies will not magically create new jobs for the state's estimated 1.7 million independent contractors.

This feels so eerily similar to how we keep being told that if we are entrepreneurial independent contractors, we are victims, and therefore our way of working must be severely restricted to protect us
The new Animal Farm movie: "Rather than serving as a critique of totalitarian Soviet Russia, the film shifts its focus towards the dangers of capitalism and corporate corruption." Unreal. Reread the book instead. A classic I revisit every few years. https://t.co/vrmKFjZSuM

Thank you @AswVickyFlynn @NJAsmGerry @declanoscanlon for continuing to push back against @NJLaborDept's misguided and damaging rules that will greatly challenge being an independent contractor in NJ. It is imperative that this rule is completely withdrawn for the sake of all gig

Listening to @AmericaWeek Given the disastrous results we’ve seen with so-called “experts” making independent-contractor policy in recent years, it’s terrifying to hear a U.S. Supreme Court justice suggest government “experts” should not be fireable 😳 https://t.co/PMHENYeUKE

Reclassifying independent contractors as employees means: * IC’s current income is gone * a job must be created to replace the income With unemployment up, who on earth believes NJDOL making a rule will create jobs for NJ’s estimated 1.7 million ICs?

It’s been six years since the California Legislature passed the freelance-busting law AB5 And it’s still costing independent contractors work today It’s beyond cruel that NJDOL wants to do this in a way lawyers say is even worse. NJ’s Legislature must act. Stop this madness!

An announcement that unemployment is up, from the same NJ Labor Department that lawyers say is trying to “almost entirely eviscerate” the ability to be an independent contractor—in a state where an estimated 1.7 million people earn some or all income as ICs
Preliminary employment and labor force estimates for September produced by @BLS_gov show NJ's total nonfarm employment increased by 10,900 jobs to reach a seasonally-adjusted level of 4,401,800. The state’s unemployment rate rose by 0.2%. Read more: https://t.co/FHVA5eiqtP

What freelance busting has always been about: “If rideshare workers in just these two states were to organize, agreements would cover more than 900,000 workers, effectively reversing the past 20 years of union coverage decline in the United States.” https://t.co/8taGh4KRON

States and cities can advance these 21 ideas in 2026 to build worker power, support unionized workers, and uphold workforce stability and standards.

Friend of mine got laid off today. Talented, hardworking individual. I am yet again reminded that during the Great Recession, independent contracting rose 40%. Because it's a lifeline. It's how a lot of people get back up after the traditional job market knocks them down.
