It is with immense sadness that we announce the death, a short time ago, in London, of Paddy Cowan, the owner and publisher of The Irish World, peacefully with his family by his bedside. He will be missed. May he Rest in Peace.

He once told a distressed father in a hospital that he wasn't being filmed - on camera, in front of the TV crew, as the father pointed them out...filming the exchange. His idea of 'truth' or 'veracity' and ours are entirely different (it was the same when he was a 'journalist').

Judith Kerr's family fled the Nazis and fascism in 1933 and she became a long-lived testament to so much that is (was?) good about this country. There's a bitter poignancy that her passing coincides with the rise, here, of those same sentiments, and intolerance, her family fled.
